Coffee Break with… is a Christie Group series showcasing the brilliance, expertise, and diversity of our network of over 200 employees.

When did you join Christie Finance?

24th June 2024

Where were you when you accepted your role at Christie Finance?

In my driveway, trying not to make a scene!

What was your first job?

Ha, I was a butchers assistant in my early teens. You can imagine the white lab coat and trilby did winders for my image back then.

In a couple of sentences, can you tell us a bit about your job at Christie Finance?

I arrange trading business loans for those buying or refinancing any trading business with freehold or leasehold property.

What’s your favourite thing about Christie Finance?

I said it quite early on, everyone at CF is onboard all the way and ready, willing and eager to assist one another. There is no gatekeeping or gamesmanship.

What’s been the biggest challenge of your career so far?

I came into Finance from a standing-start from a hospitality background whilst working in Australia, having not gone to university. It was a really hard climb, with some luck on the way – but I wouldn’t change a thing.

What’s been a highlight of your career so far?

I’ve been fortunate to work for both large businesses and very small start ups. The work I contributed to the start up I recently left fills me with pride as it continues to be implemented and will be in the code for years to come!

How has the industry changed since you started at Christie Finance?

Base rate came down by a few blips!

Who in your industry do you feel most inspired by?

I think anyone who makes a career in finance and banking is to be admired – It is not for the feint of heart.

Tell us a bit about your life outside work – what are your hobbies?

I have a large handful of hobbies that keep me busy; cooking  for family and friends is probably where I’m the most content, or taking my dog for a long walk in the country with my partner, or sewing silly outfits for my nephews and niece.

What’s your hometown? Where do you live now?

I’m from Sonning, in Berkshire. I’ve moved A LOT – Stevenage is my home now.

Where’s the best place you’ve been on holiday?

My partner were fortunate enough to spend a few weeks island hopping in the Cyclades a few years ago. The memories will last a lifetime!

What’s your biggest pet peeve?

Loud-chewing.

If you could live and work in any city, where would you go?

I’ve been lucky to manage this a couple of times, but I still have Auckland and Cape Town on my list!

Tell us your favourite joke / What is your favourite movie quote?

“8 is a lot of legs, David”

What is one thing on your bucket list?

I Would love to travel across Europe by motorbike
