Day Lewis Pharmacy in Cliftonville, Kent purchased by new entrant to the market with the help of Christie Finance

Mrs Afshan Mirza, a first-time buyer has recently purchased Day Lewis Pharmacy, a standard hours community pharmacy based in Cliftonville, closely located to the seaside town of Margate in Kent. Funding was successfully secured by specialist commercial finance broker, Christie Finance.



Day Lewis Pharmacy is well established within the local area and has been operated by the previous owners for several years. The business trades from a single storey property adjacent to a small parade of shops. Within a one-mile radius there are two GP practices with a combined patient list of almost 30,000 people. The pharmacy offers an electronic prescription service to patients which accounts for c.76% of scripts, with 3467 items dispensed in total at an average of £9.26 per item.

Afshan first studied pharmacy in Pakistan and achieved a Bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of Karachi in 1998 which led to a role working as a dispenser in the Hamdard University Hospital, before moving to the UK. Her UK pharmacy registration was granted in 2005 and since then Afshan has worked as a Pharmacy Manager, Locum Pharmacist and most recently employed as a Hub Pharmacist working with Firza Primary Care.

Babar, Afshan’s husband has supported her throughout the process as he also has extensive experience in the healthcare sector, particularly in his current role as Business Manager for a small group of two GP practices with a patient list in excess of 20,000. His job is primarily to manage the surgeries, overseeing all financial aspects and being responsible for all members of staff.
