The Elms Residential Care Home thrives three months on

Earlier this year, Christie Finance funded the acquisition of The Elms Residential Care Home. This month, Finance Consultant Jimmy Johns who secured the deal, along with Christie & Co colleague Oliver McCarthy who brokered the original sale, were invited back to their Grand Reopening Day and marvelled at the huge turnaround achieved in just three months.

The Elms Residential Care Home is located in the village of Staunton in Gloucestershire, and at the time of coming to the market, was in need of a new direction, as resident occupancy was dropping. The business required heavy investment and repositioning in the market, whilst the property required refurbishing.

Business Agent, Oliver McCarthy brokered the sale of the property to Helena Hadzihajdic, highly experienced Managing Director of Evergreen Care Services Ltd, a newly formed, family run business. Helena has over 20 years’ experience in caring for the elderly and those with complex care needs, and therefore brings with her extensive knowledge and experience in the industry.

Helped and supported by her entire family, the renovation of The Elms Residential Home has been hands on, with Helena and her family working day and night to restructure the business, with funding for the project also secured by Christie Finance. The Unsecured Loans and Asset Finance team provided the refurbishment loan in order to provide a cash injection and renovate the home. Helena’s husband, who works as an IT Consultant, has not only been project managing the refurbishment and helping with the IT infrastructure, he has also been working night shifts and even redecorating. Meanwhile, their two daughters have regularly been putting in shifts at the weekend, to help the home achieve its full potential.

Three months on and this dedication has helped see The Elms Residential Care Home go from strength to strength. Helena has ingratiated herself into the local community, attending the village fete and now hosts the village bingo at the home on a weekly basis, bringing the home and the village together, an element missing from the previous business structure.

The introduction of events such as live music and weekly activities has helped the business thrive, by providing a sense of community spirit and ultimately turning it into a warm and welcoming home. Occupancy has since increased from eight residents to 18 and the venture now has the support from the council and CQC, who have acknowledged the positive new approach and desire to provide a high level of care for the residents.

Christie Finance is proud to have secured the funding necessary for Helena and Evergreen Care Services to acquire and breathe new life into The Elms Residential Care Home. We look forward to continuing our support of their invaluable service.
