Saraj Chemist in Leicester acquired by family of experienced operators

Saraj Chemist, a standard hours pharmacy based in Leicester, has been sold by specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co and purchased by brothers Anup, Rahul and Jatin Patel, with funding successfully secured by specialist commercial finance broker, Christie Finance.

Located in a densely populated area North of Leicester city centre, Saraj Chemist offers traditional services, as well as delivery and retail services, currently dispensing 3,665 items each month.

Our clients Anup, Rahul and Jatin are well known in the local community, operating two retail businesses just 200 yards from the pharmacy also located on Belgrave Road. Anup qualified as a pharmacist in 2013 and has, until now, been working as a locum pharmacist and relief manager for a mixture of corporate and independent pharmacies.

Rahul has worked as a pharmacy manager since 2016, covering all managerial responsibilities including the day-to-day running of the pharmacy and staff management. Having implemented a travel clinic, Rahul is also qualified in travel medicines and is an independent prescriber. Jatin operates the management side of the family business, FGS Ingredients Limited, a catering food and drinks supplier.

The brothers plan to further develop the services offered at the pharmacy by growing an online presence, building relationships with local GP surgeries and implementing a travel clinic. The pharmacy has already been rebranded to ‘Brother’s Pharmacy.’

David Ward, Senior Director at Christie Finance, worked with the new buyers. He comments “It has been a pleasure working with the Patel family. Each of the brothers are uniquely qualified and will bring something different to the business. I wish them the very best in operating and growing Brother’s Pharmacy”.

Tony Evans, Head of Pharmacy at Christie & Co handled the sale and comments, “We are delighted to have concluded the sale of Saraj Pharmacy and after many years in our client’s ownership the acquisition by Brothers Pharmacy is expected to result in a significant development of not only the pharmacy but also a wide range of complementary healthcare services. The marketing of the pharmacy generated significant interest from across the East Midlands, further underpinning the fact that strong appetite remains for pharmacy opportunities within the area.”
