Unique lifestyle business in an idyllic rural village location in Suffolk, changes hands
A post office, store and tea shop situated in Wortham; which was awarded the Suffolk Village of The Year in 2004, has changed hands through the Ipswich Office of leading business agents, Christie + Co. Independent mortgage brokers, Christie Finance, arranged the funding for the purchase.
Wortham Post Office, Store and Tea Shop is located on Long Green and is a combination of two-storey buildings, with extensive two-bedroom owner’s accommodation and a three-bedroom holiday apartment arranged over the upper floor, which has an East of England Tourist Board accreditation with 4 Stars.
The post office and store form the central aspect of the building, which is fitted and equipped for the sale of convenience goods, dairy products, frozen food, off licence, confectionary, newspapers, magazines, greetings cards, household goods and pet foods. Local products/crafts, books, plants and garden ornaments are also sold via the store and tea shop. The tea shop business consists of an exposed timber beam area, which leads into a 53-cover conservatory and offers a licensed menu and has an outside tea garden with four picnic tables.
Melvyn Eke, from Christie + Co’s Ipswich Office, who handled the sale, commented; “The business had been owned by Les and Alison Dumbell for 18 years and in this time they have developed this unique combination of businesses and established a growing reputation from the immediate surrounding area. The new owners are the Lloyds and this is their first lifestyle business.”
Nick Baker, from Christie Finance, who arranged the funding for the purchase, commented; “Despite several hiccups due to the residential market causing delays, the continued support of the lender meant that we were able to see the completion of this sale.”
A freehold asking price of £450,000 was sought for Wortham Post Office, Store and Tea Room and it was sold for an undisclosed sum.
