An Irish buyer purchases a 3 Star hotel in Kirkcudbrightshire
A well presented 3 Star hotel, occupying a prominent position on the High Street in the picturesque town of Gatehouse of Fleet in Kirkcudbrightshire on the Solway Coast, has been sold through the Glasgow Office of leading business agents, Christie + Co, with Christie Finance, the independent mortgage brokers, arranging the funding for the purchaser.
The Bank of Fleet Hotel is a stone building arranged over two levels, with the main building dating back to the end of the 18th Century and was originally built as a family home at the time of the Industrial Revolution. Latterly the property was acquired by the Western Bank, the Union Bank and the Bank of Scotland, hence the hotel’s name.
Trading with a 3 Star accolade from Visit Scotland, the hotel comprises six letting bedrooms, a 24-cover dining room, a public lounge bar, a restaurant/function area, which is currently used as the restaurant with 64 covers, but can also be used for varying sized functions, with direct access to the walled beer garden, patio and smoking area.
The town of Gatehouse of Fleet has a number of historic buildings and archaeological sites of interests, including the ‘Mill on the Fleet’, a reminder of the once flourishing cotton industry. Set in a National Trust for Scotland conservation area, the area particularly attracts ramblers, cyclists and anglers.
Graeme Smith, from Christie + Co’s Glasgow Office, who handled the sale, commented; “The hotel was sold on behalf of Paul and Patricia Jacques, as they are retiring from the trade after seven years, but plan to stay in the local area. After our marketing generated several viewings, the hotel was sold to Mr Derrick Jobb, who is from Ireland.”
Offers in the region of £410,000 were sought for the freehold interest of the Bank of Fleet Hotel and it was sold for an undisclosed sum.
