Former newsagent operators from Folkestone purchase Herne Post Office & Stores
The Maidstone Office of leading business agents, Christie + Co, is pleased to announce that it has successfully sold Herne Post Office & Stores, which is situated in the pretty East Kent village of Herne, near to Herne Bay; some six miles north east of Canterbury. Independent mortgage brokers, Christie Finance, arranged the funding for the purchasers.
The subject property comprises the village store and sub post office, and is situated in the heart of Herne on the main through road. A fairly sizeable two-storey building, the shop has a traditional looking front, with an open plan retail sales area comprising a fitted post office serving counter. There is also three-bedroom owner’s accommodation, which can be accessed from the front or rear of the property.
The business essentially trades as a general store and sub post office, serving the needs of the local community. Income is derived from the sale of newspapers and magazines, groceries, a small selection of beers, wines and spirits, confectionary, chilled produce, frozen foods, cigarettes and tobacco, toiletries, gifts, greeting cards fresh fruit and vegetables and has ‘Bake ‘n’ Bite’ and National Lottery facilities.
David Garrard, from Christie + Co’s Maidstone Office, who handled the sale, commented; “Herne Post Office & Stores was sold to Mr and Mrs Kumanan, who are experienced operators and previously owned a newsagent business near Folkestone. The couple have been clients of Christie + Co for a number of years.”
Herne Post Office & Stores was sold for an undisclosed sum from an asking price of £395,000 for the freehold interest.
