Hotel business in Kent, which was first licensed by Henry VII in 1495, is sold
The Bull Hotel, an attractive hotel bar and restaurant, situated in an affluent Sevenoaks area, which originally began trading in 1385 and was first licensed under Henry VII in 1495, has changed hands.
The sale was handled through the Maidstone Office of leading international hotel agents, Christie + Co, with independent mortgage brokers, Christie Finance, providing the funding for the purchasers, via the Maidstone Office.
The property is located just off the High Street in the attractive village of Wrotham in Kent and is a three-storey construction retaining a wealth of period detail, such as exposed beams and fireplaces. The building has been restored in keeping with the original period feel and all 11 letting bedrooms have en suite bathrooms. There is a lounge bar, a restaurant area to seat 28, a main 40-cover restaurant and two function rooms; one of which was originally the village bakery and has French doors leading to a decked terrace and a patio area with a gazebo. A separate two-bedroom cottage is also provided for the owners.
The vendors took over the business three years ago and reluctantly decided to sell as they have plans to return to the West Country. The new owners, Martin Deadman and Lygia Fontanella, will be very much hands-on within the business and are committed to using local suppliers.
John Harrison, from Christie + Co’s Maidstone Office, who handled the sale, commented; “The Bull Hotel trades as a good quality restaurant, bar and hotel, which has been restored to provide a modern theme in attractive period surroundings and achieves a good turnover from this diverse income stream. Martin and Lygia have already introduced a range of ales and lagers from Haywards Heath brewery, Dark Star, and all the meat is brought in fresh from Glovers Farm in Hartley, with the fish purchased from the day boats in Hastings.”
Offers in the region of £175,000 were sought for the leasehold interest of the Bull Hotel and it was sold for an undisclosed sum. Neil Stapley, from Christie Finance, arranged the funding for the purchasers.
