A post office and general store in a coastal town in Fife is sold, after 20 years in the same ownership
Acting on behalf of Joseph and Maria Jannetta, the Edinburgh Office of leading business agents, Christie + Co, has sold Crossroads Post Office in Methil on the east coast of Fife, after 20 years in their ownership. Independent mortgage brokers, Christie Finance, arranged the funding for the purchaser.
A single-storey semi-detached property, with an attic floor, the business was extensively re-fitted in early 2005 and is laid out in such a way to assist customer flow to the four-position post office counter. Part of the retail area is fitted out with illuminated glass display cases offering fancy goods, with the remainder of the shop stocked with newspapers, magazines, cold drinks, greetings cards, stationery, confectionary and tobacco products. The post office offers all the standard services, including motor vehicle licences, passport checks and issues euros and dollars on demand. A photocopying service and an internal cash machine are also included on the premises and the business is an appointed National Lottery agent.
David Higgins, from Christie + Co’s Edinburgh Office, who handled the sale, commented; “Crossroads Post Office was run in a manner to suit Joseph and Maria’s requirements, but there is huge potential to add to the retail side of the business by possibly increasing the food and drink element available. The new owner is Manjit Athwal.”
An asking price of £185,000 was sought for the freehold interest of Crossroads Post Office and it was sold for an undisclosed sum.
