A licensed convenience store in the rural Hampshire village of North Waltham changes hands
Barn Stores, in the stunning rural village of North Waltham, which is situated midway between Winchester and Basingstoke in Hampshire, has been sold to first time convenience store operators.
The funding for the purchase was arranged through independent mortgage brokers, Christie Finance, and the sale was handled by leading business agents, Christie + Co, via the Winchester Office.
This licensed convenience store is located on Yew Tree Lane in the centre of the village and occupies a substantial detached two-storey chalet bungalow style property, with the retail premises on the ground floor and spacious three-bedroom owner’s accommodation, with a rear secluded garden area.
The business trades as a local village store selling a wide range of goods, including newspapers and magazines, fresh fruit and vegetables, general groceries, frozen and chilled goods, wines, beers, ciders and spirits, fresh bread, flowers, confectionary and soft drinks. Other services include a hot drinks machine, a photocopier and National Lottery facilities.
Charlotte Burridge, from Christie Finance, commented; “We are very pleased to have been able to arrange the business mortgage for the purchasers, Rhona Kennedy and Andy Francis, in order to acquire their first convenience store business. Rhona has several years experience of working in the retail sector and was the assistant manager for a local convenience store within a Shell petrol station. Andy also has lots of experience in the sector, his parents having owned a number of retail units in London and a fish and chip shop on the Isle of Wight.”
“The store is already well-supported by the locals, but Rhona and Andy are keen to make the store even more convenient and beneficial to its customers. They are extending opening hours and increasing the product range to specifically include products the customers want to see. In the longer term they have exciting plans to really make the store the hub of the local community.”
Barn Stores was sold for an undisclosed sum from a leasehold asking price of £81,000. Adam Darbyshire from Christie + Co handled the sale on behalf of the vendors, Mr and Mrs Holmes.
