First time buyers purchase a village post office near Royal Tunbridge Wells
A village post office, near to the Spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent, has changed hands through the Maidstone Office of leading business agents, Christie + Co, with leading independent mortgage brokers, Christie Finance, arranging the funding for the purchasers.
Speldhurst Post Office & Stores is situated on Barden Road in the heart of the village of Speldhurst and is a large detached property, with three/four bedrooms, arranged over three floors. The 400 sq ft retail sales area is stocked and equipped for a full range of convenience foods, including an off licence, fresh fruit, vegetables, greetings cards, sweets, confectionary and general household goods, with the post office counter to the rear of the sales area.
David Garrard, from Christie + Co’s Maidstone Office, who handled the sale, commented; “The business has been owned and operated by Mrs Patricia Carter for the past 19 years and custom is generated from the village, passing trade and surrounding villages. The purchasers are Mr and Mrs Davis, who were first time entrants to the market and this property was ideal as it offered spacious family accommodation and was local to where they already lived. Despite uncertainty surrounding the post office market, we remained positive and attracted more than one offer.”
Speldhurst Post Office & Stores was sold for an undisclosed sum from an asking price of £410,000 for the freehold interest.
