A couple purchase a retail business in Perthshire

A couple, who have previously worked in retail, are the new owners of Robertsons of Balbeggie, a licensed grocer and newsagent, after independent mortgage brokers, Christie Finance, assisted them with obtaining the funding for the purchase. Leading business agents, Christie + Co handled the sale on behalf of the vendors.

The village of Balbeggie is situated amidst the scenic Perthshire countryside, just over five miles north of Perth city centre and the business occupies the ground floor of a substantial two-storey detached property on Main Street. There is three/four-bedroom owner’s accommodation arranged over the ground and first floor levels, with independent access from the main road.

The business operates as a licensed grocer and newsagent, offering an excellent selection of products to many of the local residents. It has also built up an excellent reputation in the sale of hot and cold filled rolls, capitalising on the regular passing trade.

Adrian Foster, from Christie Finance, commented; “This purchase is a first time venture for my clients, William McNair and Catherine Carey, who have previously worked in retail, but wanted to buy a business so they can be their own boss. They didn’t have any deposit as this was tied up in their residential property, so we arranged 110 percent funding, which allowed them to keep their house, as well as purchasing the business and stock.”

Robertsons of Balbeggie was sold for an undisclosed sum from an asking price of £180,000 for the freehold interest. Daniel Arrandale from the Edinburgh Office of Christie + Co handled the sale on behalf of the vendors.
