Christie Finance assists first time buyers to purchase the only retail outlet in Walkerburn
The only retail outlet in the Borders village of Walkerburn, which is just 30 miles south of Edinburgh, has been sold to a pair of first time buyers, with the funding provided by independent mortgage brokers, Christie Finance.
Walkerburn Post Office & Store is located in a prominent position of the main road and is highly visible to passing trade. The business occupies a large ground floor retail unit, with the three-bedroom owner’s accommodation situated over the upper floors and independent access from the side of the building.
The shop is fitted out in a traditional style and has a range of products, which includes fruit and vegetables, groceries, greeting cards, a selection of toys, frozen foods, newspapers and magazines, tobacco and alcohol. The post office ensures a good flow of customers into the shop.
The business has been owned by the previous owners for 22 years and in total has had only three owners during its 85-year existence. The new owners, Mr Lavender and Ms Grears, are first time buyers, with a background working for the Royal Mail.
Adrian Foster, from the Edinburgh Office of Christie Finance, commented; “Mr Lavender and Ms Grears have been looking at purchasing the business for some time and we were able to come up with a number of financial solutions to secure the funding for them.”
Offers over £215,000 + SAV were sought for the freehold interest of Walkerburn Post Office and it was sold for an undisclosed sum, David Higgins of Christie + Co handled the sale.
