The Bluebell Inn in Boroughbridge changes hands

The Bluebell Inn in Kirby Hill, on the edge of the market town of Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire, has been sold on behalf of Graham and Sue Atkinson to Laura and Andrew Jeffery as their first public house purchase.

The sale of the leasehold business was handled by the Leeds office of leading licensed property agents, Christie + Co, with funding for the purchasers arranged through their associate company, Christie Finance.

The Bluebell Inn is well established as a leading ‘drive-to’ food venue in the area, attracting trade from a wide catchment area which includes Harrogate and Ripon, both within 12 miles and easily accessible via the nearby A1.  The pub also has a strong local trade and supports pool and dominoes teams and a squash club. 

This substantial, detached property briefly comprises public and lounge bars, a 24-cover restaurant, a three-bedroom flat and further two-bedroom owner’s accommodation, a beer garden to the rear and car parks to both sides.

Laura was previously a manager at the Malt Shovel in Boroughbridge and will take on a front-of-house role at the Bluebell Inn, including the day-to-day management of the pub and its staff.  Andrew’s background is in software engineering but he has also had experience of the pub trade and he will take care of the back office management in addition undertaking to general bar work. We wish the Jeffery family every success at the Bluebell Inn.”

The Bluebell Inn was sold for an undisclosed figure after Christie + Co sought £75,000 for the leasehold interest. The lease from Marston’s runs until August 2014 and the current rent is £23,000 per annum.
