17th Century country inn in rural Somerset changes hands

The Full Moon at Rudge, a country freehouse with restaurant and accommodation set within beautiful countryside near Frome on the Somerset/Wiltshire border, has been sold to first time business buyers for an undisclosed freehold sum.

The sale was handled by the Bristol office of leading licensed property agents, Christie + Co, while their associate company, the independent mortgage broker Christie Finance, secured the funding package.

This enchanting, 17th Century inn is located in the small Somerset hamlet of Rudge, just 10 miles from the Georgian City of Bath and four miles from Longleat Safari Park. The surrounding countryside has a number of wonderful walks, fishing, shooting, horse riding and golf and a wealth of places of interest to visit. Attracting local, tourist and commercial trade, the award-winning Full Moon has earned itself reputation for fine food, good hospitality and accommodation.

The property comprises 16 letting en suite rooms, the barn-style development of four self-catering cottages, a main bar, restaurant, tap room and function room as well as manager’s flat and staff accommodation.  The business has a tranquil setting with far reaching country views and is set in nearly two acres with trade gardens and car park.

The sale to first time business buyers represents the strong demand for high calibre, substantial and profitable freehold inns from private individuals, not just corporate and multiple operators.”

The new owners of the Full Moon are Christopher and Anne Taylor from Tonbridge in Kent; Chris’s background is in IT and Anne’s background is in IT and teaching.
