A couple from Coventry have achieved their dream of buying a guest house in Wales, with the help of Christie Finance
The Birmingham Office of independent mortgage broker, Christie Finance, has provided the funding for a couple from Coventry to purchase a unique guest house in the heart of Snowdonia National Park, near Blaenau Ffestiniog in North Wales.
Bryn Elltyd Guest House is one of the leading environmentally friendly guest houses in Wales and is appointed to a high standard throughout, with six en suite letting bedrooms, lounges, a conservatory and a south facing sun lounge. The property is set in an acre of semi-wild grounds and was the winner of the 2005 Best Wildlife Garden in Snowdonia competition in the business category.
The house was built in 1883 and has been extended and modernised, whilst keeping its original features, and now encompasses turf roofs, glass and timber rooms, a wood burning stove, solar collectors and a septic tank, which filters into the garden pond, via a reed bed. The bedrooms only have showers, rather than baths, and the food is sourced from local and organic produce, where possible.
The new owners, John and Ceilia Whitehead, are both interested in outdoor pursuits and plan to complete a ‘Welcome to Wales’ hospitality course. John previously worked as a further education lecturer and has been involved in freelance canoe and kayak coaching, while Ceilia worked at a primary school and has qualifications in first aid and mountain leadership.
