A historic guest house in Huntingdon is sold after 20 years of ownership
Braywood House, an impressive Grade II Listed guest house in the town of Huntingdon, right in the heart of Cambridgeshire, has changed hands for the first time in over 20 years.
Leading hotel agents, Christie + Co, handled the sale, and the funding for the purchase was arranged through independent business mortgage brokers, Christie Finance, via the Ipswich Office.
Situated on St Peter’s Road, Braywood House is steeped in history, having been built in 1828 and was formerly the Governor of Huntingdon’s home, as well as being part of the County Gaol and House of Correction. The property still retains much of its original character and has been sympathetically extended over the years.
The public areas comprise an entrance hall, a 13-cover breakfast room and a games room, which can accommodate seven. The main building houses 10 of the letting bedrooms, with the remaining two located in a detached lodge, which has a communal kitchen. The owner’s accommodation consists of one bedroom, a breakfast room, bathroom and a conservatory/office. Set in the mature grounds, the majority of the garden area is to the front, with an enclosed courtyard at the side and an elevated decking platform at first floor level.
The town of Huntingdon is located in the heart of Cambridgeshire and is one of the fastest growing towns in England, with easy access to the A1/M1 link road. It has close proximity to the RAF bases at Wyton, Brampton and Alconbury.
Mark Page, from Christie + Co, commented; “Braywood House was placed on the market by Mrs Lynne Knapp, who had operated the business for over 20 years, but is now taking retirement. The new owners are Auberon and Suzi Hedgecoe and this is their first venture into the hotel trade, although Suzi still works for Easyjet, as part of the cabin crew.”
Nicholas Baker, from Christie Finance, commented; “Our clients have purchased not only a successful business, but also a historic Grade II Listed building. Braywood House enjoys a good reputation, as well as a strong level of repeat trade and I would like to wish Auberon and Suzi every success for the future.”
An asking price of £664,000 was sought for the freehold interest of Braywood House and it was sold for an undisclosed sum.
