A well situated hotel and restaurant in Coventry changes hands

Haigs Hotel & Restaurant, in the pleasant village of Balsall Common near Coventry, has been sold to experienced restaurant operators, through the Birmingham Office of leading business agents, Christie + Co, with independent business mortgage brokers, Christie Finance, arranging the finances for the purchasers.

Situated on the busy A452 between Coventry and Solihull, the hotel is a substantial detached property, which had been owned by the vendors for approximately three years and benefits from a large car park, a garden area and three-bedroom owner’s accommodation. There are currently 23 en suite bedrooms, a fine dining 60-cover restaurant and a bar/lounge, but planning permission has been granted to provide a restaurant extension and a further six bedrooms.

The business is a 3 Star/Diamond hotel that prides itself of service and has constantly been awarded a high percentage rating for cleanliness and comfort by the AA and RAC. The restaurant has also achieved a 1 Rosette accreditation for the past nine years.

Gavin Wright, from the Birmingham Office of Christie + Co, who handled the sale, commented; “The business was sold to Simon and Jayne Chambers, who previously owned McKees Restaurant in Solihull town centre, which we sold on their behalf earlier this year. They plan to trade the hotel as a family business and increase the restaurant sales.”

David Ward, from Christie Finance, commented; “Having known Simon and Jayne for a number of years via their fantastic menus at McKees, it gave me great pleasure to help them to purchase Haigs Hotel in the ideal location of Balsall Common, near to their home. I was able to help them with their negotiations and find a lender who was prepared to lend outside the usual criteria, which showed belief in Simon and Jayne and their previous business successes. I am sure that this success will continue with Haigs Hotel.”

Christie + Co sought an asking price of £1,550,000 for the freehold interest and it was sold for an undisclosed sum.
