Landmark coastal hotel in North Wales is sold
An award winning country house hotel and restaurant, situated on Panorama Hill in Barmouth, has been sold through the Manchester Office of leading business agents, Christie + Co, with associate company, Christie Finance providing the funding.
The Bae Abermaw Hotel is an elegant detached Victorian property, which has been sympathetically renovated and improved to create a contemporary hotel. Set in approximately 3.5 acres of lawned and woodland gardens, the hotel occupies an elevated position with commanding sea and coastal views over Barmouth Harbour and Cardigan Bay.
Many of the 14 en suite bedrooms enjoy spectacular views and there is also a resident’s lounge, which is split into three areas, a bar area, a 30-cover restaurant, a fully licensed function room for up to 120 people, an open plan conservatory and separate owner’s quarters, with two double bedrooms.
Since being owned by Richard and Connie Drinkwater, the business is now well established and has an excellent reputation. The hotel has been awarded many accolades, including Which Guide to Good Hotels, Hotel of the Year 2005, Lonely Planet, Johanssen’s, Best Loved Hotels and Welsh Rarebits, to name a few. The restaurant has recently been awarded a Grade II Dining Award from the RAC, 3 Star 70% AA, together with an AA Red Rosette for dining. It has also been rated as one of the top restaurants in Wales, according to the Dining Out in Wales Guide funded by WDA.
David Blythe, from Christie + Co’s Manchester Office, who handled the sale, commented; “New owners, David and Susie Reeve, have entered the hospitality industry for the first time, but have gone into partnership with Andrew Robert Edwards, who is the former general manager of the George III Hotel at Penmeanpool. The couple previously lived in Glossop, Derbyshire, where they ran an IT company, which they have now transferred over to Bae Abermaw. The whole transaction took a mere five weeks to complete and this sale demonstrates that top quality operations will always sell.”
The Bae Abermaw Hotel was sold for an undisclosed sum from an asking price of £850,000 for the freehold interest.
