Local couple take on a long established Bury St Edmunds restaurant
A local couple have turned their dreams of owning their own café and licensed restaurant into reality after purchasing a long established business in the heart of the historic Suffolk cathedral town of Bury St Edmunds.
Susan and Richard Sidney from Suffolk are the proud new owners of The Sanctuary at 2 Langton Place, which they have purchased from chef proprietor James Wright.
The sale was handled by the Ipswich office of leading licensed property agents, Christie + Co, with the purchase financed through their associate company, independent mortgage broker, Christie Finance.
This is the third time that Christie + Co has handled the sale of The Sanctuary, having sold the business to Pierre and Rebecca Lemesre in 1991 and then to James Wright in 2005 as his first restaurant venture. The Sanctuary has been trading for some 21 years.
Located at the junction of Langton Place and Hatter Street, just off the town’s main square, The Sanctuary occupies the ground floor of a two-storey property and comprises a 28-cover restaurant and 16-cover courtyard for al fresco dining.
Nicholas Baker, mortgage broker for Christie Finance, comments: “This is a first time business purchase for Susan and Richard Sidney. Susan previously ran her own baking and bespoke cake decorating business from home. We were delighted to assist our clients with sourcing funding for their purchase and wish them every success with their new business venture.”
Simon Jackaman of from Christie + Co comments: “We received considerable interest and several offers for this business, which demonstrates the continued demand for restaurants in Suffolk. We are receiving interest from many buyers with catering experience who are now ready to take the leap forward in running their own business.”
The Sanctuary has been sold for an undisclosed figure after Christie + Co sought £50,000 for a new 10-year lease.
