Christie Finance helps Edinburgh restaurant investor expand his portfolio
Christie Finance, the independent mortgage broker, is delighted to announce that its Edinburgh office has assisted restaurateur, Matin Khan, to expand his portfolio of restaurant investments within Edinburgh.
Mr Khan, who owns Clipper’s Restaurant in Penicuik, along with numerous other Edinburgh restaurants, has purchased the freehold interest in Haldane’s Restaurant at Dundas Street within the heart of Edinburgh’s new town, from owner Keith Cowie. Although the freehold has changed hands, the current proprietors, Michelle and George Kelso, who own the lease on the property, will remain in place to run this high regarded restaurant unchanged.
Located within a 10 minute walk of Princes Street, Haldane’s Restaurant occupies the basement and lower basement of a four-storey stone property and offers superb Scottish cuisine, intimate and elegant dining, private rooms for business and special occasions. Mr and Mrs Kelso acquired the lease in November 2005 and relocated their restaurant there from Albany Street.
Adrian Foster, financial consultant from Christie Finance, comments: “When this superb investment opportunity came onto the market with our associate company, Christie + Co, our client, Matin Khan was very keen to purchase the freehold while allowing the current lessees to continue their fantastic work.
Freehold restaurant opportunities in Edinburgh are highly sought after, so we knew we needed to work fast to source finance for Mr Khan to secure the deal. Through a combination of refinancing we were able to fund 100% of the purchase price.”
Christie + Co sought offers over £375,000 for the freehold interest in the restaurant, which was sold for an undisclosed figure.
