Perthshire man buys his local pub

The Burnside Inn in the rural Perthshire village of Alyth, near Blairgowrie, has been sold to an Alyth resident, Frank Robb, who is returning from his job on an oil rig in the Caspian Sea to run the freehouse.

The Edinburgh office of leading licensed property agents, Christie + Co, handled the sale of the Burnside Inn on behalf of owners Stephen and Marjorie Irvine, who had run the business since November 2002 and are now retiring from the licensed trade.  The Edinburgh office of independent mortgage brokers, Christie Finance, negotiated the finance package for Mr Robb.

The Burnside Inn is a traditional, detached, country freehouse at 4-6 Mill Street comprising lounge and sports bars, four-bedroom owner’s accommodation, beer garden and car park.

The freehouse is a hub of the local community, sponsoring football, darts and pool teams, catering for private parties and taking part in a local quiz league.  It also attracts trade from the many golfers, fishermen and shooting enthusiasts drawn to this rural area.

Adrian Foster, financial consultant from Christie Finance, comments: “When the Burnside Inn came onto the market with our associate company, Christie + Co, our client, Frank Robb, was very keen to purchase the business.  Being a first time pub buyer and based abroad, he was extremely happy for us to project manage the finance in his absence. Mr Robb’s cousins are coming from America to run the business until he is able to return permanently.  We wish the family every success with the Burnside Inn.”

Christie + Co sought offers over £250,000 for the freehold interest in the Burnside Inn, which was sold for an undisclosed figure.
