An Essex village store is sold to a first time buyer, after 14 years in the same ownership
First time buyer, Richard Smoker, has recently purchased D'Arcy Stores, which is situated in the Essex village of Tolleshunt D'Arcy, following the retirement of the former proprietors, John and Deborah Parke, after 14 years in their ownership.
The funding for purchase was arranged by Christie Finance and the sale was handled by leading retail agents, Christie + Co, via the Ipswich office.
The business is located in a residential area, which attracts both local and passing trade and occupies a two-storey detached property. The shop is fitted and equipped for the sale of newspapers, confectionary, convenience and household goods, with the sales area comprising approximately 320 sq ft. The owner's accommodation can be accessed either through the store or by a private entrance and benefits from three bedrooms, with a garden area, car parking spaces and a garage to the rear.
Under Mr and Mrs Parke's ownership, the business only traded short hours, closing at 1pm, but there is scope to develop this and to add an off licence and a ‘food to go' element.
Nicholas Baker, from the Ipswich Office of Christie Finance, commented; "D'Arcy Stores generated a lot of interest due to its location and scope for improvement and I was delighted to be able to secure the finance required for Mr Smoker to purchase the store and I would like to wish him all the very best for the future."
D'Arcy Stores was sold for an undisclosed sum from an asking price of £275,000 for the freehold interest and the sale was handled by Melvyn Eke from Christie + Co.
