Christie First provides finance for purchase of The Angel at Woolhampton
Christie First has provided the finance for a new owner, Miss Shobna Joel, to purchase The Angel fine dining restaurant and gastro-pub in Bath Road in the village of Woolhampton, near Reading, West Berkshire.
Shobna Joel, who is from Enfield in Middlesex, has purchased the business from Andrew Taylor and Sue Dent who had run it for five successful years as a brasserie-style restaurant with Andrew Taylor as the head chef. During Andrew and Sue’s occupancy, the restaurant has been the proud recipient of two AA Rosettes, awarded for culinary flair. It is also listed in the Michelin Eating Out in Pubs Guide 2007.
The Angel is prominently located on the main A4 Bath Road in Woolhampton between Reading and Newbury. The two-storey detached property dates back to the 1930s and has been subsequently extended.
The village of Woolhampton lies on the River Kennet and was historically renowned for its coaching inns, one of which was the scene of the capture of the infamous highwayman, Captain Hawkes.
The Angel successfully combines the elements of village pub, brasserie and restaurant serving a variety of award-winning dishes, from snacks and sandwiches to substantial evening meals. It also provides a venue for wedding receptions, functions and corporate events.
Mark Aston from the Winchester office of Christie First comments: “We were delighted to act on behalf of Miss Shobna Joel in negotiating a finance deal for her purchase of The Angel. Shobna was once a metropolitan police constable before developing a career in the hospitality trade and gaining experience running restaurants such as Chiquito in Staples Corner, London, and Chicago Rock Café in Milton Keynes, Bucks. The Angel is an ideal first time restaurant purchase for Shobna and we wish her every success with her new business venture.”
Miss Joel purchased The Angel for an undisclosed figure, from an asking price of £230,000 for the leasehold interest.
